The physicist José María de Teresa, CSIC researcher at the Instituto de Nanociencia y Materiales de Aragón, INMA, a joint institute of the CSIC and the University of Zaragoza, and director of the Dual Beam Area of the Advanced Microscopy Laboratory (LMA), has been elected finalist in the popular science contest Ciencia en Acción, in the category Science, Engineering and Values.

The video
A musical and scientific approach to the micro- and nano-technology of cochlear implants, funded by the LMA and available for viewing on the LMA and INMA Youtube channels,
shows how technology is helping to restore the sense of hearing. José María de Teresa and musicians Roberto Álvarez and Kseniia Vokhmianina of the Singapore Philharmonic Orchestra, together with other volunteers, combine their expertise in music, science and technology to explain in a pedagogical way a major problem for many people: hearing loss, which is the third most prevalent chronic disease in older people.

Another of Teresa’s works has also won a prize in the same competition. His article”Advances in microtechnologies and artificial intelligence could make neurotechnology disruptive“, published in the journal ConCiencias of the Faculty of Science of Zaragoza, has been classified in second place in the category Trabajos De Divulgación Científica, obtaining an Honourable Mention.

Ciencia in Acción is an international competition aimed at students, teachers, researchers and disseminators of the scientific community in the Ibero-American geographic area, in any of its disciplines. Its main objective is to present science in an attractive and motivating way.The young people and the general public will be interested in it and throughout the competition they will enjoy attending the conferences, observing and participating in the fair and, the most animated, going up to the great experience of scientific dissemination..

The Ciencia in Acción Final will take place from 27-29 October 2023 in Viladecans, Barcelona.
